Did you know -
Chevrolet had a good week at Daytona, almost.
*Dale Jr won the shootout in his Hendrick debut.
*Jimmie Johnson took the pole as he began his defense of the Championship.
*Dale Jr won the first Duel.
*2 of the 4 go or go home drivers that had to race into the Big Show on Thursday drove Chevys.
*But then on Sunday, they hit the wall. And when all was said and done, only one Chevy driver finished
in the top 10 - Dale Jr finished 9th.
Consider this - this was the first time since Homestead in 2005, that no Chevy finished in the top 5.
That is 72 races in a row. But, even more impressive, it was the first time since Las Vegas in 2002,
that only one Chevy finished in the top 10. A streak of 214 consecutive races.
With Dodge and Toyota stealing the show at Daytona, can the Chevy camp come back strong out west
this weekend? Jimmie Johnson will lead the Chevy charge this weekend as the highest rated driver for
the weekend according to the weekly Overall Drivers Index (ODI).
One of the key battles in the first 5 races of the season is to get locked into the top
35 in owner's points. To get locked in an owner needs to gain roughly 290 points (35th place
finish receives 58 points - so 58 times 5 races = 290 points). Those locked in the top 35 for the
first 5 races are guaranteed 34 points to start each race (34 times 4 races = 136 points) so their
road to stay locked in is a much easier road. Here are the current owner standings based on
points after Daytona plus any guaranteed points for the next 4 races.
